Helping users understand what’s changed by using ‘New website tours’

You’ve created a new account section for your website and want to ensure that all your visitors can easily find their way around. Simple. Create a tour.
Not a video tour where they have to skip back and forth to find the information or instruction they need. But an interactive tour, where they are guided and informed about where everything is.

Moonfruit have a pretty nifty example:

When you log in for the first time, it guides you through the site’s primary functions, explaining how everything works.

Even if you weren’t an online software company, you could apply this same principle to the complicated account screen of a complex business or service. Or even to demonstrate a new site and its fancy new features.

If you don’t have the budget or time to create an interactive demo, you could create a flat version like Layervault…

Either way, there is no reason to leave your visitors or customers scratching their heads, wondering how to find/do something. It’s also an excellent opportunity to showcase any neat features you’ve included.
